Scholarships for Continuing Undergraduate Students

Learn about scholarships that are administered by UCSD for continuing undergraduates.

Please note:

• In addition to the UCSD scholarships below, you may also apply for Undergraduate Research Scholarships, National Competitive Scholarships, and Outside Agency Scholarships.
• Former foster youth should apply for the Guardian Scholars Program.
• Remember that all scholarships are awarded on a very competitive basis.

How to apply for the UCSD continuing
undergraduate scholarships listed below:

1. You can apply online for many of the continuing undergraduate scholarships listed below. Look for the online application in early December, using the Financial Aid tool.
   • Review the Continuing Undergraduate Scholarship Guidelines (PDF) for details on completing your application and any additional eligibility requirements.
   • File your online application by 11:30 p.m., February 20, 2012.
   • Correct or update your online application any time up to the deadline.
2. Some scholarships require a paper application and will have different deadlines. Refer to the list below to find PDFs.
3. File your FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) by March 2 to demonstrate that you meet the financial need criterion, if applicable (read moreabout FAFSA).
4. Based on the information you provided in steps 1, 2, and 3 above, UCSD will consider you for any UCSD scholarships for which you qualify.
5. Eligibility is limited to United States citizens or permanent residents (green card holders).
6. UCSD will e-mail you notification of any scholarship awards in June. Check your application status online using the Financial Aid tool.

You may qualify for two types of scholarships –
merit scholarships and restricted scholarships:

• Merit scholarships: Merit scholarships are based solely on academic achievement. Link to details about this merit scholarship:

• Restricted scholarships: Restricted scholarships are awarded on academic merit plus additional criteria such as demonstrated financial need, field of interest, leadership. If selected, you may need to provide supporting documentation to verify how you meet the restricted criteria. All personal and medical information remains confidential. • Darcy and Robert Bingham Endowed Scholarship

  • Awarded to: Current full-time students in good academic standing, employed by UCSD Recreation, UCSD Student Affairs, or UCSD who work at least 15 hours per week during the 3-quarter academic year and who have worked at least 1 quarter prior to submitting the application. Recommendations from supervisors should indicate you provided exceptional service, commitment, or contribution to the department.
  • Award amount and term: A 1-year award up to $1,500
  • Application deadline: April 29, 2011

• Errett Bishop Scholarship

• Braille Transcribers Guild Scholarship

  • Awarded to: Current students who are legally blind or have substantial, uncorrectable vision loss
  • Award amount and term: A 1-year award up to $1,000 per year
  • Paper application? No. Candidates are selected in March from the students registered with UCSD's Office for Students with Disabilities.

• Brutten Family Scholarship

  • Awarded to: Full-time students who will be juniors in 2011-2012, with a 3.0+ GPA, financial need, and demonstrated campus or community leadership at UCSD
  • Award amount and term: A 2-year award up to $2,000 per year

  • Award amount and term: A 1-year award up to $1,000

• Thurgood Marshall College Scholarship

  • Awarded to: A Marshall College sophomore, junior, or senior who's made significant contributions as a citizen and scholar and who has enhanced his/ her personal development through life experiences. See the application for minimum unit and GPA requirements for each grade level.
  • Award amount and term: A 1-year award up to $1,800
  • Application deadline: May 13, 2011

• Marx and Marshall Gay, Lesbian, and Bisexual Scholarship

  • Awarded to: A gay or lesbian student who's made a significant contribution to the gay and lesbian community Preference given to students with demonstrated financial need. Recipients may reapply each year.
  • Award amount and term: A 1-year award up to $1,000
  • Application deadline: March 12, 2011

• SAGA Scholars Program

  • Awarded to: Full-time juniors or seniors planning a fifth year and pursuing a major in science, technology, or social science. Candidates must demonstrate financial need, have a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA, be a U.S. citizen or have resident (green-card) status, and work 20+ hours per week. Preference for 1st-generation college students (not required).
  • Award amount and term: A 1-year award up to $4,000
