Why Go Greek?
Going Greek enhances your UC San Diego experience and helps you connect campus and community life.

Statistics show that participating in fraternity and sorority life not only makes a positive impact on your time at UCSD, but also on life beyond graduation.
Choosing the right sorority or fraternity
- It's important to keep an open mind as you meet the men and women of different organizations.
- Unlike the typical display of Greeks in movies and television, Greek life at UCSD includes a unique group of individuals. With 20 sororities and 16 fraternities on campus, there's a place for everyone.
Balancing academics and fun
- Greek activities are scheduled to help you maintain your academic standing while enjoying a fulfilling college experience. As a general rule, fraternities and sororities hold weekly chapter meetings.
- You can also attend optional brotherhood/ sisterhood nights, as well as scholarship and philanthropy opportunities throughout the week. Your first quarter gives you plenty of chances to meet other Greeks through social events and campuswide activities while concentrating on your studies.
Accommodating the working student
- Sororities and fraternities try to work with members around financial and attendance obligations.
Promoting diversity
- The Multicultural Greek Council (MGC) offers 7 sororities and 5 fraternities that are culturally based.
Recruitment basics
- There are several events to choose from during Intrafraterity Council (IFC) for fraternities and Multicultural Greek Council (MGC) recruitment, and it's impossible to go to every one.
To make the most of your time, consider attending IFC Info Night, a "meet-and-greet" that includes representatives from all 11 chapters and provides an opportunity to explore several chapters at once.
- Panhellenic recruitment covers all sororities. A Sigma Rho Chi (sorority recruitment counselor) will contact you prior to formal recruitment with the event schedule details.
