By popular demand... the Cute or Creepy Video Contest is back for Winter Quarter 2012!

The Cute or Creepy "Where's the L.I.N.E.?" campaign will focus on healthy dating relationships and violence prevention. Violent behavior on college campuses, including dating violence, is a serious and widespread problem.

Twenty-one percent of college students report that they have experienced dating violence by a current partner (NCADV, 2005). The goal of this campaign is to promote healthy dating relationships among UCSD students.

This campaign is sponsored by a grant from the AVON Foundation for Women's "Speak Out Against Domestic Violence" initiative.

A major component of this campaign is a video contest for UCSD students. Specific guidelines and deadlines can be found in our Video Contest Information Packet.

Where's the L.I.N.E.?

The L.I.N.E. is a tool to educate students on what a healthy dating relationship looks like. The following characteristics provide a line that distinguishes a cute relationship from a creepy one.

Laughter - Where's the Laughter?

  • CUTE when couples can laugh together in a playful, positive manner.
  • CREEPY if laughter comes purposefully to embarass or humiliate.

Individuality - Where's the Individuality?

  • CUTE when partners have their own space to develop their own identity outside of the relationship.
  • CREEPY if one partner becomes obsessive and controlling of the other partner's actions.

Negotiation - Where's the Negotiation?

  • CUTE when couples respect each other's opinions and communicate with each other when disagreements arise.
  • CREEPY when one or both partners lack trust in one another and blame each other.

Equality - Where's the Equality?

  • CUTE when each partner has an equal say and role in the relationship and both partners have mutual respect for one another.
  • CREEPY when one partner seeks to control and manage all aspects of the relationship.
