How to Enroll in 1-Unit Seminars

Find out how to enroll in 1-unit seminars for freshmen and seniors.

Notes:

  • Freshman seminars are open to first-year freshmen with freshman or sophomore standing.
  • Senior seminars are open to students with senior standing. Senior seminars have prerequisites and require a department stamp.

Freshman seminar (course number 87)

For background information, see a description of freshman seminars.

If you're a first-year freshman with no more than 44 units:

  1. Find a seminar:
  2. Choose a seminar and note:
    1. Course subject code and number (e.g., BILD 87; REV 87)
    2. Section ID number
  3. Enroll in the seminar via WebReg (see How to Enroll in Classes).

If you're a first-year freshman with 45 units or more:

  1. Review the complete list of seminars (in the 87 series of courses) offered for the upcoming quarter.
  2. Choose a seminar and note:
    1. Course subject code and number (e.g., POLI 87; MUIR 87)
    2. Section ID number
  3. Contact the department or college offering the seminar and provide:
    • Your full legal name
    • Your student ID number
    • Name of the seminar
    • Seminar section ID number
  4. Explain that you're a first-year freshman with sophomore standing.
  5. Ask the department or college offering the seminar to clear you for enrollment.
  6. After you've been cleared, enroll in the seminar via WebReg.

All other students:

  • After the initial freshman registration period ends, sophomores may register for any remaining spaces. Check the Freshman Seminar Program on the Academic Affairs website for registration dates.

Senior seminar (course number)

Students with upper division standing:

  1. Find a seminar:
    1. Review the complete list of seminars (in the 192 series of courses) offered for the upcoming quarter, OR
    2. Go to the Schedule of Classes and look for senior seminars listed by college and department.
  2. Choose a seminar and note:
    1. Prerequisites for the course
    2. Course subject code and number (e.g., HIST 192; CAT 192)
    3. Section ID number
  3. Go to the department for prior approval, then enroll in the seminar via WebReg (see How to Enroll in Classes).
