Resolving Payment Holds on Your Student Account

A hold on your student account can delay your financial aid disbursement, payments, transcript request, or other University services. Learn about the different types of student account holds and how to resolve them.

Multiple aged short-term debt

There is a past-due balance from the previous billing cycle on your account. 

  1. Review your student account on TritonLink.
  2. Make your payment:
    • Online with E-Check
    • In person at the Cashier's Office (map)
    • By mail to:
      UCSD Cashier's Office
      9500 Gilman Drive, Dept. 0009
      La Jolla, CA 92093-0009
    • Note: Partial payments cannot be made online for past due balances. Partial payments must be made in person or by mail
  3. The hold will be removed when you pay the past-due balance.

Written off short-term debt

You have a past-due balance on your student account that has been written off.

  1. Contact Student Business Services, (858) 822-4727, for more information about the debt.
  2. Pay the outstanding balance with a money order or cashier's check. Hold will be removed in 10 business days when paying with a personal check.
    • In person at the Cashier's Office (map)
    • By mail to:

  3. The hold will be removed when you pay the past-due balance.

Long-term loan documentation hold

You have graduated or dropped below half-time enrollment and did not complete your exit loan counseling requirement.

  1. Complete online exit counseling.
  2. Contact Student Business Services, (858) 822-4727, to request the hold be removed.

Long-term loan delinquency

You graduated or left the University and are past due on your Perkins or University Loan repayment.

  1. Contact Student Business Services, (858) 822-4727, and speak with a loan counselor.
    • Request more information about your account and the debt.
    • Ask if you'll need to pay the outstanding balance with a money order or cashier's check.
  2. The hold will be removed when you pay the outstanding balance or complete the necessary steps to update your account status.

Triton Registration Installment Plan (TRIP) hold

You have not paid your last TRIP installment.

  1. Pay the outstanding TRIP installment and other past-due charges:
    • Online with E-Check
    • In person at the Cashier's Office (map)
    • By mail to:

      La Jolla, CA 92093-0009
    • Once all past due TRIP and late fee is paid, your hold will come off automatically. 
  2. Notify Student Business Services, (858) 822-4727, that you made the payment.
  3. Student Business Services will remove the hold.

E-Check electronic check

You have more than three returned E-Check payments.

  1. Contact Student Business Services to discuss your account if you are having difficulty with the E-Check system.
  2. Payment must be made with a valid personal check or cashier's check.
  3. Make your payment:
    • In person at the Cashier's office (map)
    • By mail to:

  4. The hold will be removed 21 days from the effective date of payment of the personal check or within 1 business day with a cashier's check.
