Change of Classification filing period

The change of classification filing period is from:

• Fall 2023: August 1, 2023 – September 1, 2023
• Winter 2024: November 3, 2023 – November 24, 2023
• Spring 2024: February 2, 2024 – February 23, 2024

Note:  You may submit your packet as of the first filing date listed above and no later than 4:30pm on the last date of the filing period. Late packets are not accepted. Packets submitted at the end of the filing period are not guaranteed review before the fee payment deadline.

Residence determination dates

The residence determination date is the day instruction begins at the last of the University of California campuses to open for the quarter. (For schools on the semester system, the day instruction begins for the semester.)

To be considered a resident of California, you must establish your physical presence at least 366 days prior to the dates below in addition to all other requirements listed on the website. Additional residence determination dates are available through the UC Office of the General Council's website.

Note: Your dated material should begin 366 days prior to the residence determination date.

Academic Year Deadlines to Acquire Governmental Evidence of Intent

In addition to physical presence, you must establish legal ties to California through acquisition of all applicable governmental evidence of intent by the relevant deadlines and failure to fulfill all four requirements is disqualifying. Required governmental evidence of intent (subject to applicable deadlines) includes:

• State of California Driver License or State of California Identification Card for nondrivers and the relinquishment of driver licenses or ID cards issued by other states
• State of California car registration for all motor vehicles owned by Students and/or Parents
• State of California tax return filed as “resident” status effective with date of declared California residency
• Valid voter registration in California, if eligible to register
