About the Symposium
The Second Annual UC San Diego Frontiers of Innovation Scholars Program (FISP) Symposium will take place on October 18, 2016, from 8 a.m. until 5:45 p.m. at the Price Center.
UC San Diego has identified four research priorities to build the interdisciplinary expertise necessary to address society's greatest challenges and forge new intellectual enterprises that rely on the ability to work across diverse disciplines. These themes are:
Understanding and Protecting the Planet
Enriching Human Life and Society
Exploring the Basis of Human Knowledge, Learning and Creativity
Understanding Cultures and Addressing Disparities in Society
The symposium recognizes scholarly work produced by UC San Diego undergraduate and graduate students, as well as that of postdoctoral scholars who have been awarded a FISP fellowship. The symposium encourages additional interaction between students and faculty at the research level. Our hope is that the research and symposium experience will encourage these research trainees to build on multidisciplinary projects by developing their ability to communicate and collaborate with those in very different disciplines.
The FISP Symposium will include:
60 minute sessions
Small groups of trainees will be organized by discipline to present their projects with one or more faculty members serving as moderators.
Undergraduates will have 15 minutes to present his or her project and 5 minutes to answer questions.
Postdocs and graduate students will have 25 min to present with 5 minutes for questions.
At the conclusion of the conference, all participating scholars will be invited to network at the closing reception and poster session.
