Academic Year Services

Upon acceptance into TRIO Student Support Services Program (SSSP), you will be provided with the following services throughout the academic year (until graduation):

Tutoring

Upon request, students are matched with a personal tutor for regularly scheduled appointments throughout the quarter. Tutors are available to assist you in a variety of subjects that include math, biology, chemistry, physics, and writing.

Mentoring

TRIO SSSP mentors are assigned to help students with a variety of academic, social and personal concerns. Every first-year student in the program (freshmen and transfers) will be assigned to a mentor. Your mentor will be able to assist you in your transition to UC San Diego, to serve as a resource for academic and campus information, and to be an overall advocate for your academic and social successes.

Counseling

Professional counseling is available to assist SSSP students in a variety of areas, including personal advising/ development, career exploration, and graduate school preparation and planning.

Workshops and activities

TRIO SSSP offers a number of workshops and activities that aid in the holistic development of its students. These workshops and activities range from academic, cultural, and self-development.

Examples of workshops and activities offered:

  • Financial literacy
  • Career exploration

Freshman OLCs

As a TRIO SSSP Student, you will participate in an OASIS Living/ Learning Community (OLC), where you'll have the opportunity to live with other OASIS Transition Program students. You will also participate in a weekly seminar each quarter of your first year.

OLCs provide a consistent small group of peers to collaborate with for study groups and other activities. OLCs will also help you with tips and necessary tools to excel at UC San Diego.

Transfer OLCs

Every first-year transfer student will be placed into an OLC. OLCs are designed to examine the strategies through which college students acquire a network of support during their first year that contributes to their academic success and socio-cultural satisfaction as they transition from community college to a four-year university.

Transfer OLCs meet weekly during fall and winter quarters.

Note:

TRIO SSSP students are expected to take a proactive approach to succeed by requesting assistance/ services prior to the beginning of each quarter.
