Student Success Coach for: Muir College (all cohorts)

Hometown: San Diego, California

What I wish I had known when I was in college: I wish I had known to make the most of the many experiences and opportunities available in college from taking classes just because they sound interesting, to listening to guest speakers on issues that are important to me, to joining student organizations to connect with other people of similar interests. Now that I look back, I value all of the ways that college allows students so many opportunities to explore their interests and identities and grow as an individual in just a short amount of years.

What does being first-generation mean to me? First-generation college students are creating opportunities and opening doors for themselves and their family for generations to come. They are setting the precedent that a college degree is possible for anyone, regardless of family background, by using the strength, motivation, and persistence they already have within.

Top goals for the year:

  • Learn more about students’ needs and grow as a mentor and coach to be a stronger support system
  • Grow more acquainted with UCSD’s students, resources, and campus culture
  • Push myself to try new activities and places around California
  • Take more dance classes
