Advising

Whether you're looking to improve your writing skills, find direction with a major, or explore career avenues after graduation, you're likely to find what you're looking for here.

Undergraduate students at UC San Diego have a unique academic advising system to guide them through their academic career from admission and orientation through graduation. Students work with both College Academic Advisors as well as Department/Major Academic Advisors.

Advisors assist you in:

  • Your compliance with academic regulations and policies
  • Your long-range curriculum planning, along with quarterly course selection and registration
  • Your efforts to explore a wide range of academic interests, goals, and experiential opportunities

College academic advisors

Undergraduate students work with college academic advisors who are specialists in the general education requirements of their respective colleges.

Often your first point of contact, you'll meet with your college academic advisor to develop and discuss your overall academic objectives and all related requirements. College academic advisors serve as your primary resource from which appropriate referrals are made and followed, and are integral partners in your final degree certification.

Department academic advisors

Undergraduate students work with department academic advisors who are specialists in the major and minor requirements. They encourage and support you with information about strategies for utilizing resources and available services, such as academic enrichment; career, graduate, and professional school-planning; international education; and student research opportunities.

Department advisors work in close partnership with college academic advisors in guiding you to successful degree completion.
