Priority Deadline for filing the FAFSA is March 2, 2012.
Continuing aid recipients were sent a reminder notification with instructions on completing their 2012-13 FAFSA application on the web at www.fafsa.ed.gov.
- To help you complete your FASFA on the web, a worksheet is available in our office or can be downloaded at studentaid.ed.gov. Your Department of Education PIN is needed to “pre-fill” your application with prior year information.
- You do not need to complete your 2011 tax return or wait for W-2s to file your FAFSA. Estimate the amounts and then update your estimates once your tax returns are filed using the IRS Data Retrieval Tool. Access your tax information via this tool shortly after filing electronic taxes – about 3 weeks (electronic filing) or 6 weeks (paper filing).
- If your parents are required to sign the FAFSA, they may also request a PIN at www.pin.ed.gov in lieu of submitting a FAFSA signature page.
- If you do not receive a Student Aid Report email or notice from the Department of Education processor within 7 days after you have filed your FAFSA, follow up with the processor on the receipt of your application. The processor can be reached at 1-800-4FED AID (1-800-433-3243).
Also be aware that May 21st is the deadline to provide additional required documents or complete any required actions which may include using the IRS Data Retrieval Tool to verify your 2011 IRS Tax information or providing IRS Transcripts to our office. Federal IRS tax forms (1040s) are no longer accepted for verification.
Spring Quarter 2012 registration fee payment deadline: Friday, March 16, 2012.
Spring Quarter remainder funds for direct deposit will be available beginning Monday, April 2, 2012. If you did not sign up for direct deposit, remainder checks will be mailed beginning Monday, April 2, 2012.
To make sure your financial aid is available in time to pay your fees:
- Regularly check your Financial Aid Checklist to view and/or complete requested items or actions.
- Frequently review your UCSD e-mail account for messages from the Financial Aid Office.
- If you have loans, make sure you complete all the required paperwork and the TritonLink loan counseling session. Questions about Perkins Loan or University Loan required paperwork can be directed to Student Business Services at studentbusiness@ucsd.edu.
- See additional disbursement requirements and make sure you've complied with them.
- If you have met all disbursement requirements, then once you have enrolled in Spring classes, your financial aid will disburse to your UCSD student account. (Wait-listed classes do NOT count as enrolled units.)
- Review your Spring Quarter billing statement beginning Thursday, March 1st to make sure your financial aid has been applied to your student account. Please note that Direct Loan funds will not credit your account until March 24th due to Federal regulations. However, pending Direct Loan payments will be calculated into your current online balance on TritonLink. Billing Statement Tip: Access the "Current Account Activity" view on your TritonLink bill for up-to-date account activity.
- Sign up for direct deposit by Friday, March 9th for your Spring Quarter funds to credit your bank account at the beginning of the quarter, starting Monday, April 2nd.
Read about the “Special Direct Consolidation Loan” which is available for a short period to eligible borrowers, beginning January 2012 to June 30, 2012. This program is intended to help borrowers manage their debt by ensuring all of their federal loans are serviced by the same entity, resulting in one bill and one payment. Borrowers may also receive an interest rate reduction on Special Direct Consolidation Loans as a repayment incentive.
Under the UC's Blue and Gold Opportunity Plan, California residents whose families earn at or below $80,000 will have their UC systemwide fees covered by grants and scholarships from UC or other sources, if they qualify for need-based financial aid. Read more about how to qualify for this plan.
