Impacted Majors

An impacted major is one that is limiting enrollment.

If you choose an impacted major on your application, you must also select an alternate major that is not impacted. These choices will not affect your overall admission to UC San Diego, and if admitted to the university, you could be admitted into either major.

Majors with impacted status – currently in effect for all students:

  • Jacobs School of Engineering
    • Aerospace Engineering
    • Bioengineering
    • Bioengineering:Biotechnology
    • Mechanical Engineering

Majors with impacted status – effective dates vary for different student populations:

Continuing students – Fall 2015
Transfer students – Fall 2015

  • Jacobs School of Engineering
    • Computer Engineering
    • Computer Science

Note: An impacted major is not the same as a major requiring pre-major status.
