Learning and Study Strategies Inventory (LASSI)

Learn about the Learning and Study Strategies Inventory (LASSI), and how your assessment results can help you achieve greater academic success.

About LASSI

  • LASSI is a research-based assessment designed to help you improve your academic and study skills based on 10 scales.
  • LASSI is a holistic assessment, which means that LASSI focuses on thoughts, attitudes, behaviors, and beliefs.
  • LASSI provides a report of results of the areas that you're doing well in, and areas that you can work on to improve.

The 10 scales of LASSI

After you take the LASSI assessment, you'll receive scores in 10 different areas (or scales), so you can become more aware of what areas you can work on to improve your academic and study skills. The 10 scales of LASSI are:

  • Anxiety (ANX)
  • Attitude (ATT)
  • Concentration (CON)
  • Information Processing (INP)
  • Motivation (MOT)
  • Selecting Main Ideas (SMI)
  • Self-Testing (SFT)
  • Test Strategies (TST)
  • Time Management (TMT)
  • Using Academic Resources (UAR)

Take the LASSI assessment

Open the last section on this page, then log in and complete the form to request an passcode for LASSI.

After you submit the form, you'll receive an email with your individual passcode and all of the information you'll need to take the assessment.

The assessment asks you to respond to 60 statements. Use these explanations to help you decide which response to select for each statement:

  • By Not at all typical of me, we do not necessarily mean that the statement would never describe you, but that it would be true of you only in rare instances.
  • By Not very typical of me, we mean that the statement generally would not be true of you.
  • By Somewhat typical of me, we mean that the statement would be true of you about half of the time.
  • By Fairly typical of me, we mean that the statement would generally be true of you.
  • By Very much typical of me, we do not necessarily mean that the statement would always describe you, but that it would be true of you almost all the time.

Receive your LASSI score

Your score will be available after you complete the assessment. LASSI generates a 2-page report with a score for each of the 10 scales, plus your name, institution, date of administration, and an explanation of your results. You'll be able to print a copy of this report for your records.

LASSI compares your results with the results of other college students who have taken the assessment.

If you have questions regarding your LASSI scores, you can meet with a Student Success Peer Mentor
