Scholarships for Continuing Undergraduate Students

Learn about scholarships that are administered by UCSD for continuing undergraduates.

Please note:

How to apply for the UCSD continuing undergraduate scholarships listed below:

  1. You can apply online for many of the continuing undergraduate scholarships listed below. Look for the online application in November, using the Financial Aid tool.
    • Review the Guidelines for Academic Year Undergraduate Scholarships (PDF) for details on completing your application and any additional eligibility requirements.
    • File your online application by 11:59 p.m., February 3, 2014.
    • Correct or update your online application any time up to the deadline.
  2. Some scholarships require a paper application and will have different deadlines. Refer to the list below to find PDFs.
  3. File a FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) OR if AB540 eligible and not able to file a FAFSA, file a California Dream Application by March 2, 2014. Do not file both.
  4. UCSD will consider you for any UCSD scholarships for which you qualify.
  5. Eligibility is limited to United States citizens or permanent residents (green card holders), or AB540 eligible students.
  6. UCSD will e-mail you notification of any scholarship awards in June. Check your application status online using the Financial Aid tool.

You may qualify for two types of scholarships – merit scholarships and restricted scholarships:

Merit scholarships: Merit scholarships are based solely on academic achievement.

William Stout Scholarship

  • Awarded to: Merit-only scholarship, all applicants with a 3.5+ cumulative GPA are automatically included in the pool of candidates for committee review
  • Award amount and term: A 1-year award up to $1,000

William F. Rogers Jr. Scholarship

  • Awarded to: Merit-only scholarship, all applicants with a 3.5+ cum GPA are automatically included in the pool of candidates for committee review
  • Award amount and term: A 1-year award up to $1,000

Restricted scholarships: Restricted scholarships are awarded on academic merit plus additional criteria such as demonstrated financial need, field of interest, leadership. If selected, you may need to provide supporting documentation to verify how you meet the restricted criteria. All personal and medical information remains confidential.

Alumni Leadership Scholarship

  • Awarded to: Full-time 2014-2015 juniors or seniors, with a 3.0+ cum GPA, demonstrated financial need, and demonstrated college-level academic, campus or community service/ leadership
  • Award amount and term: Up to 2 years, paid at up to $2,000 annually.

C.B. Arrott Gay, Lesbian and Bisexual Scholarship

  • Awarded to: Gay, lesbian, bisexual and/or transgender students with active service and involvement in gay and lesbian community
  • Award amount and term: A 1-year award up to $1,000.

  • Awarded to: Full-time 2014-2015 juniors or seniors, with a 3.0+ cum GPA, with demonstrated financial need, college-level academic, campus or community service/ leadership, and has graduated from a high school in the San Francisco Bay Area
  • Award amount and term: A 2-year award up to $2,000 annually

  • Awarded to: Mechanical, Electrical, Computer Engineering or Computer Science majors, with 3.0+ cum GPA, and financial need

  • Awarded to: UCSD student employees, working 15+ hours per week, at least one quarter in academic year 2013-2014, and will continue working fall, winter, spring in 2014-2015

  • Award amount and term: A 1-year award up to $1,500

Braille Transcribers Guild Scholarship

  • Awarded to: Current students who are legally blind or have substantial, uncorrectable vision loss
  • Award amount and term: A 1-year award up to $1,000 per year
  • Paper application? No. Candidates are selected in March from the students registered with UCSD's Office for Students with Disabilities.

Preference given to those who have graduated from a Los Angeles County public high school

  • Awarded to: Full-time 2014-2015 juniors or seniors, with a 3.0+ cum GPA, demonstrated financial need, college-level academic, campus or community service/ leadership, and who can meet one or more of the following requirements: Come from zip codes 92113, 91950, 92154, or 91910; are UCSD Preuss School graduates; or attended the Toussaint Academy of the Arts and Sciences

Robert and Pat Whalen Military Transfer Scholarship

  • Awarded to: Transfer students who have served in the U.S. Armed Forces as enlisted or non-commissioned officers, have demonstrated financial need, and Engineering majors. Preference given to those who have transferred to UCSD through Transfer Admission Guarantee (TAG) or UniversityLink.
  • Award amount and term: A 1-year award, amount varies
