How to Wait-List a Class

If you want to book a class that is full, you can put yourself on a wait list.

Facts about wait-listed classes:

  • Although the two-pass booking process does not apply to graduate students, wait-listing is not available to students until undergraduates complete their first booking window.
  • Classes can be wait-listed until 4:30 p.m. on Thursday of the second full week of classes. See deadlines for the academic year.
  • If you don't meet class requirements when you attempt to move from the wait list into the class, you will not be added to the class.
  • You may request authorization to book the course through Triton Enrollment Authorization (TEA), but cannot request to be added to a wait list.
  • The last run of the auto wait-list program is Thursday of the second full week of classes at 10 p.m.

About wait lists in the new Triton Student System (TSS):

  • In TSS, waitlist requests run continuously, instead of just once a day. As soon as a seat becomes available in a course in TSS, the first student on the waitlist is immediately added to the course in real time — there's no need to keep checking back.
  • The status on your Student Overview Homepage will change from waitlisted (shown as Booked on Wait List) to Booked once you're in.
  • Be careful when dropping a course! If you drop a course and the course has a waitlist, you'll need to join the waitlist and wait for your turn to be re-added to the course.
  • If you need to switch a course section, use the Switch Section option in TSS instead of dropping the course and re-adding. Note that the Switch Section action will release your seat from the previous course to an individual on the waitlist, if a waitlist for the course exists.
  • While you're on the waitlist, you have the same options as a booked student:
    • Drop — removes you from the waitlist
    • Switch — moves you to another waitlist, or to a section of the same course that has open seats
  • View more information and instructions on waitlisting.

If the class or section you want is full:

  • Triton Student System (TSS) will offer you the option of booking another open section of that class, or wait-listing the section.
  • You can only wait-list for one section of a course.
  • You can't be simultaneously booked and wait-listed in different sections of a course.
  • Use TSS if you are pre-authorized to book a full class.

Note: Classes you have wait-listed will display in TSS.

If you change your mind and want to add or wait-list a different section of a class for which you are already booked:

  • If you need to switch a course section, use the Switch Section option in TSS instead of dropping the course and re-adding. Note that the Switch Section action will release your seat from the previous course to an individual on the waitlist, if a waitlist for the course exists.
  • You can't be simultaneously booked and wait-listed in different sections of a course.

If you want to find out if you were placed into a section from the wait list:

  • If you're booked in a wait-listed class, you'll be notified by email and it will be included in your class list on TSS.
  • Confirm your grading option on TSS.
