Impacted Majors

An impacted major is one that is limiting enrollment.

If you choose an impacted major on your application, you must also select an alternate major. These choices will not affect your overall admission to UC San Diego, and if admitted to the university, you could be admitted into either major.

Majors with impacted status – currently in effect for all students:

  • Jacobs School of Engineering
    • Aerospace Engineering
    • Bioengineering
    • Bioengineering:Biotechnology
    • Mechanical Engineering

Majors with impacted status – effective dates Fall 2013 and Fall 2015:

Freshmen – Fall 2013
Continuing students – Fall 2015
Transfer students – Fall 2015

  • Jacobs School of Engineering
    • Computer Engineering (CSE and ECE)
    • Computer Science

Majors with impacted status – effective dates Fall 2014 and Fall 2015:

Freshmen – Fall 2014
Continuing students – Fall 2015
Transfer students – Fall 2015

  • Jacobs School of Engineering
    • All majors, other than those listed above

Note: An impacted major is not the same as a major requiring pre-major status.
