System Status:

Class Levels and Upper Division Standing (Undergraduates)

Determine class level based on earned units and learn the definition of upper division standing.

Class Level

The range of units associated with each undergraduate class level follows:

Class Level
Units
First-Year 0-44.9
Sophomore 45-89.9
Junior 90-134.9
Senior 135+

Upper Division Standing

An undergraduate student with 90 or more cumulative units is considered to have Upper Division standing.

Some courses require students to have upper division standing as a prerequisite. A student with less than 90 units earned would need to submit a Triton Enrollment Authorization (TEA) request to the department for permission to book.

Booking Windows

Please note that class level generally and for course eligibility are based strictly on units, but booking window assignment is based on a combination of cumulative units passed and quarters completed. That means you may be assigned a booking window that doesn't match your unit-based class level. For more information on undergraduate booking windows, please visit Understanding Your Booking Window.
