Key Concepts
Holds are placed and removed by the office responsible for the requirement. TSS shows you which holds are active, what they affect, and who to contact — look to the Hold Group and Hold Description fields for details.
The Registrar's Office cannot remove holds placed by other departments, so always follow the instructions provided in TSS.
Viewing Your Holds
-
Log in to TSS. You will be taken directly to the Home Page. Under Academic Information, select My Holds.

-
Your active holds appear listed with the following information:
- Hold type: Describes the nature of the hold.
- Effective Date: This is when the hold was placed and took effect.
- Academic Period: Refers to the academic quarter impacted by the hold.
- Hold Group: The UCSD organization that placed the hold and to be contacted for any necessary follow-up.
- Responsible Office: The specific office within the organization that placed the hold.
- Hold Description: Provides an overview of the hold, how to resolve, and whom to contact for questions or assistance.
- Hold Prevents: Provides details on the impact of the hold, such as if the hold prevents you from registering or enrolling in courses.

In the example above, the Registrar placed two holds on 10/27/2025 for incomplete mandatory training. Both prevent registration, and the Hold Description explains how to complete the training so the holds can be removed. In the Hold Description there are instructions to complete the required training so that the hold will be removed.
Getting a Hold Removed
You can't remove a hold yourself in TSS, but many holds clear automatically once you complete the action described in the Hold Description — for example, paying an outstanding balance through TritonPay or completing a required training.
If not, contact the office that placed the hold. To resolve a hold:
-
Review the Hold Type, Hold Group, Responsible Office, and Hold Description to determine what action to take. Holds may take some time to clear after you've completed the required action.
-
If you have questions, need assistance, or the hold requires follow-up, contact the responsible office using the contact information in the Hold Description.
-
Once the office confirms the requirement is met, they will remove the hold from your account.
